During lot of years a group of citizen of Tenerife has been working in get the protection of a cultural space, very special, as industrial historical heritage. Now The Tank is protected.
We want to explain all REASONS TO PROTECT “EL TANQUE” (THE TANK):
1. The Espacio Cultural El Tanque is the most awarded and published space in the Canary Islands of the twentieth century and it continues to remain an issue. [...]
2. This outlines the need [...] to get a resolution protecting the cultural precinct "The Tank", as part of the Canary heritage, from other initiatives that encourage its demise. To give legal certainty to this space and besides preserving its integrity to allow the continuity of the artistic and cultural
activities that it houses.
3. Multiple technical reports insist on these ideas that attest the need and feasibility of declaring BIC (Bien de Interes Cultural/ Cultural Heritage) the Cultural Space The Tank. As an example, find below the report signed by the architect Urbano Yanes, which includes in its text, published in the ‘20 the following considerations:
4. "The Cultural Space Tank has become (...) a cultural facility with its own personality, whose uniqueness has reached the international cultural scene.
It is difficult to find international references of cultural facilities with a so marked quality of space and that might represent such an innovative bet for the recycling of obsolete industrial facilities. "
5. "(...) In addition, the acceptance of this public space by an obscure audience and poorly served by traditional cultural tours and the opportunities offered to creators and artists of various kinds for developing multidisciplinary art forms reflect the concerns of a dynamic and culturally active population , which a city can not ignore."
6. The Ministry of Culture from Spain considered that both the architectural intervention as well as the acts occurring in this space, have been extraordinary, exceeded the national borders and being a cultural model to be followed."
7. Keeping El Tanque means protecting our industrial heritage and using it as a cultural space we fill with content the knowledge, memories, images and all that setting up and organizing the industrial activities that have taken place in Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the twentieth century . And since it was opened to the public as a cultural area until now, has become something more than a tank of oil refining to become a place of memory, and this is something that cannot be removed.
In all this process the leader has been a group of citizens who specially "want to thanks Dulce Xerach".
For me was a pleasure to work all together protecting culture.
Pues sí, gran logro, pero ahora te queda luchar por el entorno, y por la programación.
